Hathaway Cottage
COTSWOLDS
The project for this quaint Grade II listed thatched property, taken on back in 2015, was to spruce up the entire cottage and completely redesign the space within. The ultimate goal was to create a cosy, luxurious space to relax and indulge while offering the feeling of space and practicality throughout. The kitchen and living areas were completely gutted and in its place new oak wood floor boards were fitted, the chimney breast was stone-faced to soften the aesthetics, and by removing gas from the property and switching solely to electric, it freed up considerable space to redesign and install a beautiful new bespoke kitchen. Upstairs, the old fitted wardrobes were ripped out of the bedroom and the floorboards and beams were sanded back to reveal a far lighter and fresher feel, while bespoke furniture was fitted to contrast harmoniously with eclectic vintage pieces. The bathroom was upgraded to create a more inviting space to indulge and unwind - the favourite aspect being the wall tiles all lovingly handmade and drawn by Marlborough Tiles. Given the size of the property, the utility elements were moved to the outhouse, which coupled up nicely as a cosy office space. Restoring the patio with new stone slabs certainly enhanced this addition and introduced a charming influence on the property as a whole. This renovation became a labour of love, and just by restoring old features and updating the aesthetics it’s amazing what you can do to transform even the smallest of spaces.
